Two conditions: Belief and baptism to be saved
Only lack of belief is associated with condemnation - belief and baptism linked together for salvation or is baptism linked to evidence of belief in obedience

Baptism of Jesus
Jesus was baptized so that John could identify him as the Messiah in fulfillment of prophecy
Jesus was sinless, yet he was baptized - indicating that baptism does not remove sin
Jhn 3:3-6
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom - except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom
Born of water means baptism
Born of water means born the first time in the flesh as seen in vs 6 - the emphasis is spiritual rebirth
Jhn 3:15,16
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
No mention of water baptism

Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John

The word baptize ( immersion) is used to show the immersion of the Holy Spirit into the disciples - no water required

No baptism mentioned - calling means cry for help to one who we can trust

Repent and be baptized in name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins and receive Holy Spirit
Repentance and baptism at same point in time - both are commanded for the remission of sins
Repentance, belief in his word (received his word) then obedience in baptism

There is none other name under heaven .. whereby we must be saved
Emphasis on name of Jesus for salvation - no mention of water baptism
Acts 8:12,13
When they believed … concerning the kingdom and name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized

Ethiopian eunuch - Philip preached unto him Jesus … what hinders me to be baptized? - If thou believest - I believe that Jesus is Son of God
Eunuch understood he needed to be baptized and was immediate result of preaching Christ
Philip asked first if he believed as a requisite of baptism -- belief in Christ was the essential criteria
Acts 9:1-22
Saul's conversion - Ananias told to go to Saul - he received sight forthwith and was baptized
Philip and Saul both understood he needed to be baptized
Putting on of the hands is what caused his sight to be restored - Aninias' mission was to restore sight and that Saul may be filled with Holy Spirit - Saul was not baptized until after he received sight and assummingly received the Holy Spirit
Acts 10:34-48
In every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him - whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit - can any man forbid water - he commanded them to be baptized
Peter taught that baptism was essential part of salvation
Remission of sins is by believing in him --The Holy spirit was poured out to believers before baptism - indicating that they had been accepted in the Lord before baptism. Baptism is seen as the means of human acceptance into the body of Christ
Acts 13:38,39:
Through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins - by him all that believe are justified from all things
Forgiveness and justification comes through belief in Jesus
Acts 15:7-11
Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel and believe - purifying their hearts by faith - through grace … we shall be saved
Faith is what purifies (removes sin) through grace - no mention of water removing sin
Acts 16:13-15
Lydia - whose heart the Lord opened - she attended things spoken of Paul - she was baptized
Only mentions she was baptized -
It is assumed that she accepted the gospel as Paul preached to her - her belief qualified her to be baptized
Acts 16:22-34
Philipian jailer - what must I do to be saved? - Believe on the Lord thou shalt be saved - same hour was baptized and all his family
They were immediately baptized
Paul's requisite for salvation not baptism, but belief in Jesus - they spoke to him the word of the lord so that he could either deny the word or accept it - once believing he could be baptized
Acts 18:8
Crispus … believed on the Lord .. and were baptized
Belief and baptism go together
They were baptized after they believed
Acts 18:24-26
Appolos - instructed in way of Lord- taught the things of Lord - knowing only John's baptism - Aquila & Prisclla explained to him more accurately
John's baptism not sufficient
Without being baptized in Jesus' name, God was using him to teach the things of God, yet he needed to be instructed more fully in the teachings of Christ
Acts 19:1-6
Some Corinth disciples - Have you received Holy Spirit? - Baptized unto John's baptism - they were baptized in the name of Jesus
Disciples (followers of Christ) needed to be baptized in the name of Jesus
This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit by laying on of the hands - no water is mentioned - these people had already believed and been saved
Acts 22:3-16
Paul recounts his conversion - brother Saul receive thy sight - why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord
Paul needed to wash away his sins without delay by being baptized by calling on the name of the Lord
Baptism is "calling on the name of the Lord". Calling on the name of the Lord is what washed away his sins
Rom 3:21-26
The righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all … that believe - being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ … to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins … the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus
We are declared righteous, (without sin - washed of sin) sins remitted through faith in the blood of Jesus, that is, that he took my sins and died in my place - No mention of taking away sins by water baptism
Rom 5: 1
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Made right with God (sins removed ) by faith - no mention of water baptism removing sins
Rom 5:8-11
While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us … being now justified by his blood … by whom we have received the atonement
Justified (made right with God - sins removed) by Christ's blood - no mention that water baptism removed sins
Rom 6:3-8
So many of us as were baptized .. were baptized unto his death -buried with him - Christ raised - walk in newness of life
To be true disciples, we need to die to self and be raised to a new life in Christ through water baptism - the actual dying takes place in the water
Baptized into Christ - not baptized by water. The essential teaching is that believers must have died to the old self and risen to new life in Christ - the actual dying and resurrection takes place when we first believe and trust Christ as our savior - in his Name -he only can take and give life
Rom 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
Salvation is a gift given to us who receive it by faith - we can not do anything to merit salvation
Rom 10:9
Confess with mouth Jesus, believe God raised him from dead, thou shalt be saved
A need to proclaim with mouth is condition whereby we must be saved - similar to need to be baptized
In previous verse, mouth is associated with word of faith - indicating that act of faith is what saves us - no mention of baptism as condition of salvation
Rom 10:13
Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved
No baptism mentioned - if required to be saved, surly it would have been mentioned
ICor 1:17-21
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel - preaching the cross .. foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is power of God - by preaching to save them that believe
Paul emphasizes that belief in the preaching of the gospel is what saves - in a way says baptizing is not what saves
ICor 10:1,2
How all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were baptized unto Moses
In order for Israel to be God's chosen, it was necessary for them to be baptized - so it is with us who want to be part of the body of Christ
The Israelites did not get wet, yet were baptized unto Moses - indicating baptism was a trust in Moses' name; likewise Christian baptism is a trust or belief in Jesus' name
ICor 12:13
By one Spirit are we all baptized into one body
It is necessary to be baptized to be in the body of Christ
Talking about the spiritual immersion into the body of Christ - emphasis is into the body
ICor 15:29
What shall they do which are baptized for the dead
In bringing out the truth of the resurrection, Paul shows that it is necessary to be baptized for the remission of sin so that they that die may have hope of the resurrection
In bringing out the truth of the resurrection, Paul is talking about those, like himself, who are dead to self and are immersed in Christ's life (baptism)
Gal 3:1,2
Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Receiving of Spirit (salvation) was by faith - no mention of water baptism
Gal 3:26,27
Children of God by faith - As many have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ
To put on Christ we must be baptized
By faith we put on Christ - faith leads us to publicly testify in baptism that we are dead to self and now have put on Christ
Eph 1:3-14
Accepted in the beloved - redemption through His blood - the forgiveness of sins - trusted in Christ - heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: … ye believed - Sealed with Holy Spirit
Our sins were forgiven when we heard the gospel (good news of Christ's death and resurrection) and believed or trusted and were then given the Holy Spirit - no mention of water baptism to remove sins
Eph 2:5-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God
The gift of faith in Christ is what saves - no mention of water Baptism -- it is God who made us alive with Christ by his grace
Col 2:11-13
Circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism …through faith of the operation of God
Baptism is the circumcision made by Christ as the sign of a covenant relationship performed in the heart through faith
Col 3:11,12
Circumcision made without hands - putting off sins by circumcision of Christ - buried with him in baptism - through faith of God
Circumcision parallels baptism - cutting away sins
Circumcision was a sign of the covenant. Faith in the operation of God is what buries you in Christ and raises you up
IITim 3:15
The holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus
As the Word (scriptures) reveals to us Jesus and we exercise faith in him, we are saved - no mention of water baptism
Tit 3:5-8
According to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Spirit
We are save by the mercy of God by the washing (cleansing of sins) of regeneration (new birth) as we our born anew in the Spirit
Heb 9:22
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission
The remission of sin is by Christ's shed blood - water is not sufficient
Heb 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water
Washed with pure water indicates baptism cleansed our entire being of sin
`Sprinkled' and `washed' refer to high priest's function in the temple fulfilled by Christ by his shed blood and by his baptism - those in him are associated in this cleansing

Baptism now saves us ( not putting away filth)
Noah saved by grace, faith, & water - baptism same -
Noah was saved not by the water, but by the ark which he built in faith - the baptism that Peter is talking about is not the physical water, but the washing of regeneration (Tit 3:5) - faith that Jesus is our ark of salvation
Rev 1:5
Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood
Washing away our sins is accomplished by the blood of Christ
