The Contrary Winds of Hebrews

Focus: Even though the Christian is attacked by Satanic forces that want to break his relationship with Christ, we can be sure that Christ holds us close to Himself.

I. The Winds that want to take us away from Christ

A. Drifting Away for Lack of Interest (Heb 2:1)

Other Interests take over little by little

B. Negligence (Heb 2:3)

We Neglect Study, Prayer and Service
We do not appreciate what Christ did to purchase our salvation

C. Hardness of Heart (Heb 3:8,13)

Sin keeps spiritual truths from entering our hearts
Sin keeps the Holy Spirit from working in us

D. Dull of Hearing (Heb 5:11)

We hear the Word so often, but never apply it
The Word becomes old and powerless
E. Lack of Growth -- Spiritual babies (Heb 5:12-14)

Law: when something stops growing, it begins to die
Not equipped to fight the spiritual battle

F. Lack of Fellowship (Heb 10:23-25)

We have no support from Christian brothers and sisters
There is no love to share

G. Impatience -- we lose the hope of the Second Coming of Christ (Heb 10:36)

We lose the eternal perspective

II. Christ Holds us Close to Himself (Heb 10:19-23)

A. Christ is our High Priest

B. God is Faithful

C. Christ Forgives and Cleanses

Conclusion: The very things that Satan is using to drive us away from Christ, helps the Christian to depend on Christ to be vigilant in these areas.
